Gifts for 4WDers

Recovery gear, comms, a fridge, a shower tent, an awning. All of it gets bought. A serious first aid kit is the thing that gets put off every year because nothing has gone wrong yet.

That makes it one of the few genuinely useful things left to buy someone who has everything.

UNDER $100

The SURVIVAL Snake Bite KIT is the standout. It carries a SMART Bandage, a splint, a tick spoon, an emergency blanket and a whistle, and it clips to a belt, a pack or MOLLE. Anyone who camps or walks in this country should own one and most do not.

The SURVIVAL Slimline First Aid KIT is 4cm thick and lives in a glovebox or a door pocket without becoming clutter.

THE PROPER GIFT

The SURVIVAL First Aid KIT - Medium is the one most tourers should have. Serious first aid for two, sized to mount in a vehicle, built for the road where help is a long way behind you.

The SURVIVAL First Aid KIT - Large is the step up, with the depth to treat three or more people and keep going when one dressing is never enough. That matters on a trip with a convoy or a family.

IF YOU WANT TO SPEND MORE

The Outdoor Bundle (Gen 8) pairs a full KIT with snake bite capability, which is the combination remote travel actually needs. The Camping First Aid Bundle does the same for someone who camps more than they tour.

WHAT MAKES IT A GOOD GIFT RATHER THAN A DUTIFUL ONE

Everything inside is colour-coded and labelled, and Gen 8 adds a pictogram to every label. It is a nice object, not a first aid box from a hardware store, and it looks right mounted in a well set up truck.
